It was not enjoyed long and Ribarshi went out of use though it also was imported also by Japan at the Meiji era period, and it spread by the name "Genji and heike go" (A red, white horse was used) and "Revalshe" and "Back".

Afterwards, after Goro Hasegawa in Japan originally announces Othello's present rule and package in 1973, it is recognized that Ribarshi and Othello are the same games. The size of size (35mm) of the stone of Othello put on the market first is almost equal to Fta of the milk bottle.

It is said that the origin of the name was taken from development the story of plays of Shakespeare "Othello" into which the relation of black's general "Othello" (= Kuroishi) and white's wife "Desdemorna" (= Shiraishi) bewilderingly changes. This naming is Hasegawa's father and due to English literature person's Shiro Hasegawa. I hear that a dark green color of Othello's board was the one that the image that general Othello fights bravely on a green plain was given moreover.
