非常に多様性に富み、様々な面で人間生活にも関わりがある。動物について吸血するものがイメージとして強いため、転じて人間社会の中で、他人の稼ぎを巻き上げて生活するものなどに「社会のダニ」というなどの使い方をすることがある。
